I'd second Kevin on the Burris 3-12x. I have one on most of my specialty pistols. For short-range stuff, crank it down to 3x and you still have a very nice field of view and lots of light due to the 32mm objective lens. IIRC most of the fixed-power handgun scopes don't have objectives that big. FWIW, some of the newer pricier versions at SHOT 2010 had an electronic red dot for those darker times.

The only people that should be worried are the so called digital gurus. They’ve had it all their way for too long producing really average ideas and glossing over them with a bit of flash programming or taking credit for other peoples work because they’ve spent 2 days of binary code to make something move in a banner. Yes, I have met many teachers in the system who represent what you have said. They are burnt out and stopped learning. However, I realize there is a root to this problem and maybe taking care of the root should be the focus. One of the best teachers I know has “burnt out” this year. I thought it would never happen to this teacher, but it did. This made me start to wonder how we lose great teachers. Perhaps, this is another post?

I think you should look at contemporary ads and compare them to contemporary poetry.When I started my creative writing degree, the first thing we were told was “never let a poem rhyme”. Because it’s naff and old fashioned. It was all about observation, honing into the tiny details of life, and saying a lot in a few words.Which set me up a treat for writing ads, I can tell you.Poetry’s moved on. Ads have moved on. Society’s moved on. But poetry and copywriting still use the same skills.
